North & South Trophy
Victory for Thomas Rowland in the North & South Trophy staged at Dunstanburgh on Saturday 9th April. Thomas shot 142 and won on countback from Shaun Philipson, Phil Ridden and Matthew Webb. Shaun shot the lowest score of the day with a 67 in the first round. Other Prudhoe scores were Andrew Scrimshaw (148), David Craig (152), Kevin Robson (154), Denny Ward (159), Stephen Pallister (160) and James Curry (161). May
Norah Percy
A fabulous victory for our ladies against Gosforth (Bridle Path) Golf Club in the 1st round but were defeated 3-2 against Whitley Bay in the 2nd round.
Thompson Shield
A great second place for Phil Pallister and Ken Rutherford in the Thompson Shield played at Northumberland golf club.
72 Hole County Championship
Four of our members qualified for the final 36 holes - Andrew Scrimshaw (299) finished 6th with Thomas Rowland (302), Danny Shevill (308) and Shaun Philipson (retired hurt after 54 hole). Kevin Robson, David Craig and Denny Ward failed to qualify for the final two rounds. The winner of the event was Matthew Webb (295) Junior County Strokeplay Championships
Thomas Rowland retained the Northumberland Under 18 strokeplay Championship when he triumphed played at Gosforth Golf Club on 29th May. Tom shot two rounds of 73 to win by one stroke. Thomas is also Durham Schoolboys Champion winning at Beamish Park in April.
June County Salver Champion 
Liam Curry won the County Salver Champion (handicaps 5-12) played at Prudhoe on Saturday 4th June. Liam shot a gross 79 net 67 to win by two shots from Paul Potts also from Prudhoe. Liam's score would have been even better if he had not dropped 5 shots over the last 3 holes. Big 6 Team
Thomas Rowland was selected to represent Northumberland in the Big 6 event staged in June 1st Division Teams Championship Played on Saturday 11th June, our team of Andrew Scrimshaw (142), James Curry (154) and Danny Shevil (159) finished 3rd behind winners City of Newcastle. Andrew's individual score was only one behind the winner Matthew Webb
England Selection For Tom
Tom Rowland has has been picked as one of the 3 man England Nations Team to take part in the Nations Cup is being played as part of the highly prestigious 72 hole Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters at Nizels in Kent on 17-19 June. Well over half of the field of 123 international golfers have handicaps ranging from scratch to +3 & they are all playing for world ranking points as well as the title. County Matchplay 2011 - Newcastle United  The County matchplay championship was staged at Newcastle United in June. Two of our 5 entries qualified for the matchplay phase - Andrew Scrimshaw (142) and Shaun Philipson (144). Unfortunately Kevin Robson (149), Denny Ward (151) and Dany Shevil (NR) failed to qualify. Victory for Shaun Philpson (2 up) over M Webb but defeat for Andrew Scrimshaw (1 down) against Duncan Ross (Ponteland) in the last 16 knockout round. Unfortunately Shaun lost (2 down) against Duncan in the last eight. The picture shows Shaun during his match against Duncan.
NJGA Championships The championships were played at City of Newcastle on Sunday 26th June. Kyle Humphrey won the best net prize shooting a super 75 net 66. July
Forster Cup
Our captain Phil Pallister finished 10th in the Forster Cup played at Alnmouth on 23 July. Ray Basson also took part but did not have one of his better days! Fenwick-Smith

Champion of Champions
In the Journal Champion of Champions event played at Close House on Sunday 4th September, Tom Rowland was runner-up (+2) and Andrew Scrimshaw third (+3) behind winner Phil Ridden (Level). It was Andrew's last event as an amateur. Davison Cup Winners
Victory at home 3-2 over Hexham in our first round match. In the 2nd round we travelled to Newcastle Utd and again won 3-2. In the quarter final we defeated Longhirst 3-2 at home. In the semi final we beat Tyneside 4-1 (at Ryton). In the final played at Seahouses on Saturday 10th Setember 2011. Our team of Danny Shevill, David Craig, John Eden, Steven Pallister and Dan Atkinson defeated Bellingham 4 - 1. Contratulations to all the players, Captain, Vice-Captain and supporters.
England Selection Having played very impressive golf during the year and especially in August, Tom Rowland has earned a place in the England Junior Team to play in Canada at the Canadian International Junior Challenge which takes place on 12th - 15th September 2011.
To help earn his place in the England team Tom's record in August included - A 6th in the North of England under 23 youths championship at Middlesbrough Golf Club finishing 3 under. A 7th place at the Lee Westwood Trophy, played at Rotherham Golf Club with a level par finish. Both events are recognised by the EGU order of merit and earned R&A world rankings points.
He also reached the last 64 of the British Boys Championship. Team News

A poor start to the season with a 4-1 defeat to Close House in the Mail on Sunday competition David Craig and Dan Atkinson faired better in the Daily Mail Foursomes. They defeated Parklands, Bellingham, Close House and Crook in rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 but lost at Westerhope in round 5. TR Percy

The 2010 Season Summarised
Victories for Andrew Scrimshaw in the Northumberland Schools Championship staged at Hexham in April and in the NJGA 36 hole strokeplay championship played at Blyth in May. Still in May Andrew won the Nick Faldo Golf Series played at Nottingham Victory for Thomas Rowland in the Northumberland Under 18 strokeplay Championship played at Prudhoe in July. Playing at St Andrews in August Thomas won the Open Boys Scratch Medal and also won the Merchants Cup - on his way be beat Andrew in the quarter final. Our team players (see photograph below) won the N&D and Hadrian league titles. The first time the double has been achieved. Playing at Arcot Hall in September the N&D team added the Dixon Cup to their trophy haul. James Curry and Andrew Scrimshaw both shot excellent 69's. Andrew won the individual prize with birdie 3 at the 1st play-off hole.
During the season both Andrew Scrimshaw and Thomas Rowland gained their first selection for the senior County team. Along with James Curry and Danny Shevill we had 4 players representing the County.
Andrew Scrimshaw's and Thomas Rowland's golfing achievements were rewarded with national selections. Andrew played for England School Boys against Scotland and Thomas was selected for the England under 18 squad. |
